Chatting with one of my yogi students the other day, she said to me that those days when you don't have time for something, it really means it didn't become the priority. That really resonated with me. We have a finite amount of time and we have to choose what to spend it on. We choose what to prioritise. Sometimes work is genuinely the priority and self-care, whatever form that might take, doesn't get a time slot that day. That's ok. Sometimes. I guess the trick is figuring out your priorities.
At the end of each yoga class, we always take a moment to reflect on what it is we feel grateful for. What I have noticed in myself is that this simple act of gratitude immediately helps me to recognise what's important in my life. From that place of clarity, it's much easier to see if I have my priorities right. It also calms me down by giving me perspective, helping me to recognise how much I have - my family, my health, my work, my yoga students, my home... (the list goes on) ... and what's not worth stressing over.
Well one big thing I am grateful for this week is Bruce Springsteen. Concert this weekend, baby! The photo above is me and my sister, Maeve, at his concert back in 2016. Here's the video evidence of this. https://youtu.be/rG5Cs7-zfXg (Skip to 4 min 20 secs if you're not a big Bruce fan.) I first went to see Bruce before I had even met my Simon and this time for the first time, the three kids are coming with us. I am giddy. His music speaks straight to my soul and I am very grateful for it.
